This has been a banner year for InDaSkies.

“2015 has been a year of positive change for us a great amount of hard work was put in with some great memories along the way,” said Joe Serrato (vocals, guitar).

Their groovy music style blends reggae, roots, dance hall, dub, and rock with an undeniable “Texas flair” distinguishes InDaSkies with a sound of its own. “We aim to spread positivity, camaraderie, and unity through music,” said Steve McDonald (drums, vocals). “When you leave an InDaSkies show, you take with you this positive energy that you feel that you're a part of. We're putting out there what we want to see in the world, and that's positive vibrations.”

InDaSkies had some really cool gigs to spread those vibes in 2015. “We're honored to have shared the stage with some really talented musicians,” said McDonald. The band has performed all over the Bay Area, Galveston, Houston, and San Antonio supporting and performing with Fortunate Youth, 40 Oz. to Freedom, The Steppas, Sol Seed, Stranger, Idiginis, Cassette Tape, Hardy & Co., Gaby Veray, and many more.  “Another memorable moment was recording our first single "The Show Must Go On" for the Will Play For Food Vol. 4 compilation CD,” said

Serrato. “It pushed us to a tighter sound of an uphill adventure of what is to come.”

InDaSkies is keeping busy for sure with area gigs. Mark your calendar now for the “Will Play For Scootch” benefit set to begin at noon on Saturday, December 12 at Ronnie’s Ice House located at 4355 FM 517 in Dickinson. In October, Matt “Scootch” Appelby, a League City resident and local musician, was struck by a vehicle while assisting a friend with car trouble on the side of the road in Louisiana. At press time, InDaSkies is scheduled to perform at 1:30 p.m. “Scootch is a good friend of mind, old roommate, past member,” said Serrato. “He was the person who actually thought of the InDaSkies name.”

Performing on stage is huge for InDaSkies. “We love playing and we love the energy and the vibe that resonates among everyone in the place,” said McDonald. “It's a rush for us, and when people respond positively to what we bring it rewards our efforts and gives us the15_12_indaskies2400 motivation to keep working and bringing new original music. Plus it’s just great to know that people dig it.”

So how does InDaSkies come up with original music? “Most of the writing process is done individually starting from a melody or idea that we want to express to the listener,” said Serrato. “We are a team that works well with each other so we try and bring the idea to practice as a finished product then everyone adds their parts to the idea to create a song. Some songs have also been created just by jamming at practice and working out the kinks as we go. We are lucky that everyone can adds their two cents and be a part of the writing process.”

Along with Serrato and McDonald, InDaSkies is comprised of Charlie Glen (bass, vocals); Mike Heilman (hand percussion, FX); Kristen Heilman (keys, vocals); and Bradley Mangrum (trumpet, vocals). “The band has grown in many ways since the start,” said McDonald. “We've grown in size, we've grown closer together as people, and we've grown together as musicians. The process of incorporating our musical personalities has transformed how we play and what we sound like.” Serrato adds, “I think the people would be surprised to know that all of the members hold down a real day job and that we do this only to put a smile on the fans faces.”

No matter how accomplished InDaSkies felt in 2015, the excitement is building as 2016 approaches. InDaSkies is anticipating the recording their first EP for a spring release. They are also planning a mini Texas tour and to expand their fan base.

“We want to give the fans something to listen to whenever they want,” said Serrato. “Our goal is to provide a feel good vibe when you listen to our music and bring people together in a positive way. InDaSkies is all about unity through music.”
