Cock and Bull British Pub: Cheers to a Fun Dining Experience with a Neighborhood Feel

May 02, 2013 03:23PM ● By SCENE MAGAZINE STAFF
Paul Revere is credited in history with this famous quote, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" And the Bay Area is so glad they are here...

The Cock and Bull British Pub, located at 3659 NASA Parkway in Seabrook, boasts 18 different British and American beers on tap and more than 55 craft beers are available for your imbibing pleasure. The selections will vary.

Brands and flavors that have lovingly flowed from the taps are HeBrew Hop Manna IPA, OskarBlues Dale’s Pale Ale, Guinness, Karbach Barnburner, Cedar Creek Lawn Ranger Cream Ale, Wasatch Apricot Hefeweizen, Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA, St. Arnold Divine Reserve, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, and the ever popular Miller Light, Bud Light and Coors Light. Once a specialty beer has “tapped” out, it’s gone and another brilliant brew will take its place. The lesson to learn is to visit Cock and Bull’s establishment often so you won’t miss out.

Since opening in early 2012, Cock and Bull has welcomed those in the neighborhood into the pub’s fun and distinctly British atmosphere. The dark wood bar, a rich red theme, and an eclectic mix of just about everything the British culture represents parlayed into an overall comfortable and interesting setting, complete with a large bar area, a dining area, a dart room, and a library lounge. Rooms can be reserved. Each room has an individual personality that’s fit for a king, the common man, and even Lord WentWorth. Ever met a lord? Check him out as you walk in – He loves to pose for pictures.

Another legend at Cock and Bull is local scatsman Cecil Shaw, a Soul Train and Motown alumni. (See inside this issue for details.) Beginning May 9, Shaw will be performing during Jazz Thursdays. The entertainment rolls into the weekend with live music on Friday and Saturday nights from approximately 7 to 10 p.m. Complimentary valet service is available on weekend evenings.

Enjoy “crackin’” happy hour specials all evening on Mondays while playing trivia. On Tuesdays through Thursdays, the drink specials are from 4 to 6:32 p.m. Why until 6:32 p.m. you ask? Owner Jeanette Walker explains, “Inevitably you are going to look at the clock and think ‘Oh no, it’s 6:30 p.m., and happy hour is over!’ But, at Cock and Bull, we give you that extra two minutes!”

French-inspired American chef Kelsey Thomas and British chef John Blythe prepare a “True Brit Brunch” on Sundays that is served until 4 p.m. and includes a traditional British breakfast as well as a British carving station with roasted meats. It’s “fun” dining, not “fine” dining. The delectable menu features British culinary favorites like Fish and Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers and Mash, and for those partial to the taste that’s close to home, fine dining options range from filet mignon to lamb chops to a variety of seafood and more.

As the beer offerings change on a frequent basis, so does the wine. Cock and Bull keeps plenty of unique and satisfying wines in stock to complement whatever dish you decide to order. On Wednesday nights, it’s half-price wine bottles all night.

Cock and Bull’s owners David and Jeanette Walker hail from Australia and England and have been members of the Bay Area community for decades now. They strive for outstanding customer service and an authentic British experience within a pub designed to invoke feelings with its atmosphere. That makes a superb recipe for a good time and as the British saying goes “Bob's your uncle!”

Their hours of operation are Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, Mondays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to close, and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. For more information, visit www.TheCockAndBullBritishPub.com.
