Friendswood Fine Arts (FFAI) presents the 4th Annual Art in the Park - Outdoor Art & Music Festival on May 18 and 19 in Stevenson Park located in historic Friendswood. Art in the Park is the largest event of its kind in the area, bringing thousands out each year and features incredible art, demonstrations, fantastic music, entertainment, and free art activities. There is something for everyone at the festival where artistic talent and appreciative patrons merge for one glorious weekend.

“This event really brings out the best that our area has to offer. Art in the Park inspires such a great outpouring of support and participation from the community, it is truly a unique event.” said Co-Founder and Director Sara Peters. This years’ festival will include an “Art Through The Ages” exhibit that will showcase local artists from Kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as live art demonstrations throughout the weekend. “We want to encourage everyone to experience the arts during this event and witness the great work that artists are doing around us, every day. It just makes sense to start with the art teachers, who help to nurture and guide the artists of tomorrow,” says Peters.

Art in the Park is coordinated by FFAI Directors Sangie Gardiner and Sara Peters along with a great team of dedicated volunteers. Friendswood Fine Arts is a 501c3 Nonprofit Organization who helps to support and encourage the arts through free community events presented throughout the year.

All activities at Art in the Park are free to the public thanks to sponsorships by local businesses including Motor Trend, Denbury Resources, Allied Petrochemical, and the City of Friendswood.  Musical performances will include flamenco guitarists Guillermo Serpas and Andrew Bateman on Saturday, and a soulful show finale with the soulful sounds of the Modulation Band on Sunday afternoon.

“The event begins at 10 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. on Saturday, and we’re back for a second day this year, from 11 until 4 p.m. the following Sunday. There was just too much to include it all in just one day, we needed a whole weekend!” said Director Sangie Gardiner. In addition to event programming, each year Friendswood Fine Arts selects a local non-profit organization or group to also benefit from event proceeds. The 2013 Art in the Park benefactor will be the Friendswood Education Foundation, an organization supporting local education through programs ranging from student and teacher relationships to advancement of campus technology. In addition, Friendswood Fine Arts is sponsoring an art supply drive to benefit the Resource Crisis Center of Galveston County. Visitors are encouraged to bring new art supplies to the park that weekend for a chance to win some great prizes. Each item donated is an entry into the drawing. All donated items will go to help support the Art Therapy Program sponsored by the Resource Crisis Center.  A list of needed supplies is available on the official event website.

Information for Artists and Musicians who would like to join the event, as well as general event information can be found by visiting www.AitpFESTIVAL.com, or by emailing [email protected] Keep up with all of the excitement on Facebook.com/FriendswoodArtFestival.
