Mattia’s Trattoria Piano Bar: A Warm Atmosphere Where Fun Takes Center Stage

Jan 05, 2013 01:16PM ● By SCENE MAGAZINE STAFF
Within Mattia’s Trattoria Piano Bar’s rustic setting at is a celebration of Italian culture with food, drink, and live musical entertainment.

Houston’s own premier multi-talented musician Daniel Rose and his “orchestra” performs each night beginning at 7:30 p.m. Rose has been playing music for over 50 years and is skilled in the art of playing the keyboards, guitar, sax, flute, conga drums, and oboe. Often he trades out these instruments in the same song! Rose adds new songs to his repertoire weekly, takes requests and features local talent on a rotating basis.

"The fresh music and changing line up keeps the entertainment interesting and up-beat,” said Mattia’s Trattoria Piano Bar owner Mattia D’Errico.

On most Friday and Saturday nights, the smooth croons of Phil Johnson, also widely known as the Barry White of Houston, can be heard alongside the beautiful vocals of songstress Liberty. However, you may find Liberty, who has a flair with the Latino crowd, as well as other singers and entertainers performing on additional nights as well.

You can even catch the band “Andy & The Dreamsicles” performing a few times each month on varying nights. Visit www.ItalianPianoBar.com for the most current information.

It’s a distinctly laid back and warm atmosphere where feeling as part of the “family” and having a good time takes center stage.

In the Italian culture, food is a means for establishing and maintaining ties among family and friends. In fact, no one who enters an Italian home should fail to receive an offering of food and drink. And it is no different at Mattia’s Trattoria Piano Bar. “Our house is your house,” said D’Errico. Mattia’s Chef Laurence Weddel prepares D’Errico’s tried and true family recipes from Naples, Italy. All of Mattia’s dishes find favor in pairing up with a selection from the restaurant’s extensive and unique wine list. The wine varieties are from different regions of Italy, California, Oregon, and Washington State selections with local and other Texas wines coming soon!

“We also offer personal temperature controlled wine lockers and sell any wine at our wholesale cost with a slight corkage fee when we serve the bottle at their table,” said D’Errico. “If there is a special wine that you desire, we will order it for your occasion, with enough advance notice.”

Mattia’s Trattoria Piano Bar has just started serving a variety of espresso drinks and will soon offer Italian pastries from D’Errico’s home town Gloversville, New York. This sounds good any time during the day or night!

On Mondays through Wednesdays, happy hour is from 5 to 7 p.m. Complimentary ballroom dance lessons are offered after happy hour on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 8 p.m. Mattia’s celebrates Ladies Night on Thursdays with half off well drinks, wines & beers, margaritas and martinis.

Mattia’s opens earlier for lunch on Fridays and Saturdays at 11 a.m. An extended happy hour starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
